Bergen Public Library is pleased to host a launch party for Harald Herresthal’s fourth and final volume in the series Ole Bull – en kunstner og hans tid (Ole Bull: An Artist and His Era). At this event Herresthal will receive the Ole Bull Prize for 2010.
19 years of research
200 years after Bull’s birth, Herresthal finishes the biographical endeavor he began in 1994. It was announced in March that his painstaking research on the Norwegian violin virtuoso had won for him this year’s Ole Bull Prize.
First awarded in 2004, the prize’s purpose is to perpetuate and increase interest in Ole Bull, his practice as a musician and composer, and to encourage new generations to keep Bull’s musical legacy alive. Previous winners include Arve Tellefsen and Henning Kraggerud.
Everyone is invited
The event starts at 10:30am in the ‘grand piano room’ at the main library (Strømgaten 6). Refreshments will be served and the jubilee book will be on sale, along with the other volumes in the series. Annar Follesø and Wolfgang Plagge will provide musical entertainment. Follesø has recently launched a CD of Bull’s music and, together with Plagge, has ‘dusted off’ Variations on ‘Lilly Dale’, a Bull composition no one has played since 1880.
The launch party is open to everyone. See www.unipub.no for more information about the biography Ole Bull – en kunstner og hans tid.
