Ole Bull – The Water Spirit of Valestrand
A historical play about Ole Bull´s magical universe will take place at an outdoor scene at Valestrand in August this year.
Ole Bull – Fossegrimen på Valestrand (‘The Water Spirit of Valestrand’) is an outdoor production at Valestrand on Osterøy Island, near Bergen. The venue for this theatrical performance is the place where Ole Bull spent his summers as a child and where he eventually came to build a lovely villa.
Based on Bull’s adventurous life, it constitutes one of the main events of Ole Bull 2010, the bicentennial celebration of the violin virtuoso’s birth. Valestrand was where Bull spent his summers as a child and where he was first introduced to Norwegian folk music. There he also eventually built the villa ‘Bullahuset’. So it is with great pleasure that Valestrand community hosts this magnificent production in the field adjacent to the villa.
More than 50 actors – amateurs, professionals, children and adults – are participating in the historical play, and over 30 musicians will be performing as well. It will be a spectacular pageant with dancing, a bridal procession, travelers afoot and on horseback, not to mention Hardanger fiddles.
The extravaganza also features music by Bull which has rarely been performed in recent years. The play’s spoken language is Norwegian, but with the world-languages of music and dance.
Performance dates: 13, 14 and 15 August 2010, 9:30 PM
