Ole Bull celebration in New York

Ole Bornemann Bull, became a world‐renown violinist and composer. His impassioned dedication to his country’s musical traditions played a key role in the development of Norwegian culture following Norway’s separation from Denmark and the rise to independence from Sweden. Ole Bull was a mentor to young Edvard Grieg, founded the National Theater in Bergen, but was a cosmopolitan and a traveler.
Ole Bull performed throughout the world, and became particularly inspired by America, where he was well known as a wizard on the violin and captivated his audience with his virtuoso, charismatic performances.
The American Scandinavian Society now celebrates the birth of the great violinist. The event includes Lorentz Reitan, Associate Professor at the Grieg Academy in Bergen, Norway, and music by Ole Bull and Edward Grieg performed by Norway’s young, prizewinning sibling duo Julie Coucheron (Piano) and David Coucheron (Violin).
David (26), American Scandinavian Society’s Cultural Grant Award Recipient 2006, has a Master Degree of Music from The Juilliard School and a Master of Musical Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He is now the Concert Master of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and is performing in Carnegie Hall, October 30th.
Julie (24) has a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts Degree, both with 1st class Honors, from The Royal Academy of Music in London. She is now teaching and performing everywhere.
David and Julie have performed internationally from a very young age, as a duo, and as soloists with chamber ensembles and major orchestras. They have recorded two CDs and have won numerous awards and competitions, most recently the first prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Musica “Citta di Pinerolo” Competition in 20, Turin, Italy.
Lorentz Reitan is a professional musicologist and the Special Advisor to “Ole Bull 2010”, International Programs. He is the former Executive Director of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Artistic and Managing Director of the Annual Bergen International Festival. Reitan has numerous responsibilities in the field of Norwegian culture.
The event will take place on 1185 Park Avenue in New York on from 4-6pm.
